Josiah Watson

Fun City is a portrait of Demolition Derby and Speedway culture in Aotearoa, New Zealand that came to life from observing the unconventionally balletic nature of cars colliding. The piece features a beautifully frenetic track from the motion picture ‘Midnight Cowboy’ that influenced the way we shot the film. We actively listened to it as we shot and let the music guide us as we lensed these warm summer nights at the speedways. I’m grateful to have stretched a new muscle by allowing room to improvise and respond with how we shot this project. I hope you enjoy!
